You follow your color model very well by using the yellow green and grey on your data. I would suggest on both to use grey or white for text since that is the color of text in the color model. Your visual model keeps the text free and clean. I would suggest adding a cartoon element to your graph since most of your graph uses icons. Maybe you could do a telephone cord or make icons of cell phones to make it more like your visual model.

I added a phone icon and also a charge cable in order to follow my visual model.

Both versions emulated the color model well. But in order to emulate the visual model, maybe add more graphic aspect will help. Maybe make the bar graph as a phone charger cable or something.

I changed the layout as a phone and phone charger cable in order to follow my visual model.

For the bar version, maybe make it as horizontal (as the right bottom of visual model). Since those data are varied by year, make the start point could help. The title is started with a "%", which seems a little bot weird, maybe change it to "percent". For the line chart, the start of the x axis has no data, maybe eliminate the length.

I made the layout horizontal in order to follow the right bottom of my visual model. I also added phone icon as start point and a USB plugin as the end. Changed the "%" as "percent".

In order to follow the color model, maybe more darker grey should be used, since in the color model, darker grey is more common than the lighter one. Maybe change the title to the green or darker gray, since in the color model, there are no titles in orange.

I did not change the color of title since according to my visual model, titles are in bright colors, like orange. But I changed the phone icon to be more gray instead of colorful, in order to make it more real.

Maybe make the lines more rounded in transition since in the visual model, the corners are very rounded. Also, in the visual model, the graph is corresponding to the roll film. They have close relationship with each other. However, in your version, the bar graph and the charger cable are not related closely.

I did not come up with a good way to fix this problem, but in order to match with the visual language model better, I resized and repositioned the phone icon. I made the corner more rounded, and also added more spaces between each row.

The phone icon looks really strange in color, maybe thinking of change the color. Also, maybe change the phone icon to be larger and place it at the right bottom as in the visual language model.

I changed the phone icon to a more gray color. I also resized and repositioned the phone icon in order to match better with my visual language model.

This emulation shows:

This display shows that the percent of US adults who own smart phones. This increasing rate of smart phone ownership indicates that smartphones have become universal and popular among the US, which means that most of parents have the device for using mobile applications.

How this element exploits the visual potential of appearance:

(1) Used length (or size of the bar) encoding to show the exact percent of smart phone ownership in each year.

(2) Used position encoding in the y-axis (time, top to bottom equals to recent to before).

How this element emulates the models:

(1) To emulate my color model, I used the pale green color on the cable, as in the color model, the pale green is used to connect different parts. I also used the bright green and orange alternatively for the bar graph so that it is more easy for audience to distinguish between the bars. I used the light and dark grey from my color model on the smartphone icon and the USB part. The colors in the screenshot are also from my color model.

(2) To emulate my visual language model, I made this display similar to the right bottom of the model. I used phone charger cable to connect all the bars with a staring point and an end point, which is the USB and the phone. I also made this display with only fill in colors with no strokes, and all the graphics are flat without rotating.

(3) To emulate my typography model, I used the similar font and text size in the model on the labels in this display.
